The concept of this collection was “Wearable Mindfulness”. The collection is made up of different elements that promote healing, comfort, and calming aesthetics and making-processes. The main graphic visual repeated is a pastel rendition of the Aquinnah cliffs in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. A place I feel most at peace. The collection utilizes many different construction techniques that have been proven to be therapeutic; such as, knitting, crochet, and a multi-textured version of a paint-by-number type graphic of the cliffs. In studying the psychology behind therapeutic design, one of the most important factors to this collection was incorporating as many different types of soft textures I could, including wool felting, velvets, hand knits, and soft textured fabrics. All of the wool roving was sourced from a local New York farm.
